In a significant development, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Experienced batter Temba Bavuma will lead the Proteas in this series. Young batter Matthew Breetzke is the only uncapped player in the squad, which doesn't include several senior players.
Why Have South Africa Excluded Nortje, Jansen And Ngidi?
South Africa will miss numerous frontline pacers on their Bangladesh tour, with the likes of Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi and Gerald Coetzee not participating in the series. The reason behind Ngidi's absence is still unknown, while Jansen and Coetzee have been given a break.
Meanwhile, Nortje, who is currently active in the Caribbean Premier League, hasn't been picked in the squad. In these bowlers' unavailability, experienced seamer Kagiso Rabada will lead South Africa's pace battery alongside Nandre Burger, Dane Paterson and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder.
South Africa Recall Senuran Muthusamy To Their Test Setup
Considering the spin-friendly pitches in Bangladesh, South Africa have covered all bases in their spin-bowling department. Keshav Maharaj will spearhead their spin unit, with Dane Piedt and Senuran Muthusamy assisting him.
On Muthusamy's comeback, South Africa's Test coach Shukri Conrad said,
"We have three frontline spinners and all of them have the ability to step up at any time they are needed. This is a great chance for someone like Senuran, who has potential to make a mark with both bat and ball. We are really looking forward to seeing what he can offer. Overall, we trust the depth and versatility in our squad to meet this challenge head-on."
