In a significant development for Bangladesh, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially confirmed its participation in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The series, set to begin on October 21, marks a critical moment for Bangladesh cricket, particularly after recent security concerns raised by the international cricketing community.

The confirmation comes after an extensive security assessment that was conducted by South Africa. The inspection team of South Africa which included operations manager, team security manager, safety and security consultant, and a representative from the South African cricketers' association conducted an in-loco visit to Bangladesh to assess the safety measures after the recent political unrest that has plagued the nation.

This tour makes South Africa the first team to visit Bangladesh for a bilateral cricket series following the political protests and upheaval that led to the ousting of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.

Bangladesh To Host South Africa In October

South Africa will arrive in Dhaka on October 16, ahead of the first Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, which is scheduled from October 21 to 25. Following this, the teams will travel to Chattogram for the second Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, from October 29 to November 2.

Earlier this year, the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, which was scheduled to take place in Bangladesh, had to be shifted to the UAE due to unrest caused by anti-government protests. Despite these challenges, the BCB has remained resolute in ensuring the smooth conduct of the series.

South Africa's World Test Championship Campaign

South Africa's Test team is currently ranked sixth in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) standings. The Proteas have played six games so far, winning two, losing three, and drawing one. With only six matches remaining in this WTC cycle, South Africa must win at least five of these games to stand a realistic chance of qualifying for the WTC final at Lord's next year.

While CSA is yet to announce the squad for the series, it is expected to be revealed later today. With key players expected to return, the series will be an essential part of South Africa's quest for WTC points and a step forward in Bangladesh's rebuilding efforts.
