Rohit, Bumrah Shockingly Excluded As Gambhir Picks His All-Time India ODI XI

Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, known for his fiery spirit on the field, has once again sparked a debate with his all-time Indian ODI XI selection.

The former Indian opener, who was instrumental in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs, made some eyebrow-raising choices that have left fans and cricket pundits alike in deep contemplation.

Gambhir chooses to open, Demotes Tendulkar to middle-order

Gautam Gambhir's XI is a mix of legends and match-winners, but what stands out is his decision to take the opening slot alongside the attacking Virender Sehwag, pushing the 'God of Cricket' Sachin Tendulkar down to the No. 4 position.

This move has certainly raised eyebrows, as Tendulkar’s illustrious career as an opener is often considered unparalleled.

Joining the top order are the rock-solid Rahul Dravid at No. 3 and the ever-reliable Virat Kohli at No. 5. Yuvraj Singh, who has been the backbone of many a successful Indian chase, takes the No. 6 spot, while MS Dhoni, arguably India’s greatest ODI captain, slots in at No. 7, donning the wicketkeeper’s gloves.

The bowling lineup features a formidable spin duo—Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin—who have spun a web around many batsmen over the years. The pace department is led by Zaheer Khan, with Irfan Pathan partnering him.

Gambhir shockingly excludes Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah

However, the glaring omission from Gambhir’s XI is Rohit Sharma, a player who has redefined the role of an ODI opener in modern cricket.

Rohit’s staggering record of three double centuries in ODIs, a feat unmatched by any other player in the history of the game, and his incredible numbers are proof of his brilliance

Gambhir’s decision to overlook Rohit and take up the opener’s role himself has raised questions, with many wondering if this was a reflection of his confidence in his own abilities or a subtle nod to the era he played in.

Another surprising exclusion is Jasprit Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the best fast bowlers in the world today. Bumrah’s pinpoint accuracy, lethal yorkers, and ability to bowl in the death overs have made him a vital cog in India’s ODI machinery.

His absence from Gambhir’s all-time India ODI XI is like leaving out a trump card from a deck, and it’s a decision that has left many scratching their heads.

Instead, Gambhir has placed his faith in Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan, both of whom were known for their ability to swing the ball and make early inroads into the opposition’s batting lineup.
