Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux celebrated her return to ODI cricket by entangling Bangladesh’s batting line-up for just 97 at Mirpur. The 26-year-old claimed astonishing figures of 3-10 from her 10-over spell, which featured a whopping 53 dot deliveries.

Fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ in her comeback game, Molineux expressed her excitement of playing cricket in Australian colors once again, and added that she is aiming to sustain her international run with a few more playing XI call-ups.

Sophie Molineux, having snared 12 wickets for RCB in their triumphant WPL 2024 season, made instant mark in her return to Australia’s ODI colors through their ongoing series in Bangladesh.

Molineux claimed three key Bangladeshi wickets at Mirpur and restricted the hosts to 97. The Australian batting line-up overhauled their task with six wickets and more than 26 overs to spare to go 2-0 up in their three-match ODI series.

After the match, the left-arm Australian spinner expressed her excitement of returning to team’s ODI setup, and praised her colleagues for their collective team effort against Bangladesh. She said:

“It's just nice to be back, to be honest. Being back on tour and to get a game is really cool. I think that all bowlers performed really well today, especially the spinners and then to get over the line, it's a good day for us.”

Sophie Molineux also added that she learned a lot during her two-and-a-half year long ODI absence, and is currently aiming to get more 50-overs international games for Australia going ahead. She stated:

“It was a long two years, I learned a lot over those two years. And I'm just happy to be playing cricket. I'm happy to be playing in any colors at the moment and even better to get a game for Australia again.”

Sophie Molineux played a crucial role in RCB’s triumphant run this WPL 2024 season, where she finished as the third highest wicket-taker of the tournament behind teammates Shreyanka Patil and Asha Sobhana.

Molineux’s 12-wicket WPL 2024 collection also included a match-winning three-fer against Delhi Capitals in the title clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on March 17, i.e., just a few days prior to Australia’s ODI series in Bangladesh.
