Patidar, Hazlewood Pummel CSK As RCB Secure Huge Win

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) consigned CSK to a huge 50-run defeat at the latter’s home ground of Chepauk Stadium in match eight of the IPL 2025 season. Batting first, the RCB accumulated a staggering 196-7 from 20 overs. 

Opening batter Phil Salt clubbed 32 runs from just 16 balls, before captain Rajat Patidar led the way in the backend of the innings with a swift 32-ball 51. Tim David also bludgeoned three huge sixes in his sizzling eight-ball 22*-run cameo.

In response, the CSK managed to chart just 146-8 from 20 overs, with Rachin Ravindra’s mere 41-run act turning out to be the biggest benefactor of the innings. Unbeaten MS Dhoni slogged a few during the death overs with a fiery 30* from 16 balls. 

For the RCB, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood picked up figures of 3-21 off his four overs, while Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone chipped in with two wickets each.

Noor Ahmad Snatches Purple Cap From Shardul Thakur

CSK’s Afghanistan-based spinner Noor Ahmad eclipsed LSG fast bowler Shardul Thakur to claim the coveted ‘Purple Cap’ of the IPL 2025 season

In the match against RCB on March 28, the young spinner picked up the huge wickets of well-set batters Phil Salt, Virat Kohli and danger-man Liam Livingstone to claim figures of 3-36 in a high-scoring innings.

Ahmad has so far claimed seven wickets in just two matches of the IPL 2025 season at an impressive average of 7.71. He is leading second-placed Thakur by a wicket in the ‘Purple Cap’ race.

Virat Kohli Surpasses Dhawan For A Huge IPL Record Vs CSK

While Virat Kohli managed to score just a sluggish 31 from 30 balls in match eight of IPL 2025, the legendary Indian batter soared past Shikhar Dhawan to become the leading run-getter in IPL history against CSK. Kohli’s current tally against CSK stands at an elite 1,084 runs to find himself 27 runs ahead of second-placed Dhawan.

In the match played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, the RCB opener whacked two boundaries and one six while forming crucial partnerships with opening partner Phil Salt, number three Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar.

BCCI Reschedule KKR vs LSG Match After Security Concerns

In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rescheduled the upcoming KKR vs LSG match by a couple of days. Originally scheduled to be held at the Eden Gardens as part of the IPL 2025 double-header on Sunday, April 6; the match will now be taking place on Tuesday, April 8 at the same venue.

Earlier, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had expressed its security concerns over the original scheduling as the match was coinciding with a prominent religious festival.

Joe Root Rejects White-Ball Captaincy

Former England Test captain Joe Root has ruled out the possibility of becoming his team’s white-ball skipper after the resignation of Jos Buttler. It is worth noting that Buttler recently quit his leadership role after England suffered a 0-3 series larruping in India and failed to win a single match at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

While speaking with Sky Sports Cricket, Root said that he will fully support whoever will become England’s next captain. At the moment, Harry Brook has emerged as one of the leading contenders to succeed outbound Buttler.
