In an exciting thriller contest, RCB beat CSK by 50 runs to win the 8th game of IPL 2025. Batting first, Phil Salt’s carnage, Rajat Patidar’s half-century and Tim David’s blazing finish helped RCB put 196 runs on the board. However, CSK flattered in the chase as their middle order collapsed, resulting in a humiliating 50-run loss.

Here’s how CSK vs RCB game panned out in Chennai:

Phil Salt Falls Prey To Lightning Fast MS Dhoni

RCB’s inning took off a flyer note as Phil Salt hammered 32 off just 16 balls in the powerplay. However, to stop Salt’s carnage, MS Dhoni pulled off a lightning-fast stumping. Noor Ahmad bowled a well-disguised googly that spun away from the batter.

Salt was looking to drive it inside out while standing leg-side but missed it completely. At the same time, his back foot lifted momentarily before he could bring it back into the crease. That slight hesitation was all MS Dhoni needed to produce another lightning-fast stumping.

Tim David Guides RCB To 196

After Salt was dismissed, Rajat Patidar slammed a gritty 51 off 32 balls, playing a captain’s knock. However, just when RCB needed to accelerate the inning, the middle order collapsed.

Despite a quick loss of wickets, Tim David pulled off a heist in the last over. He slammed 3 straight sixes against Sam Curran to bring up a 19-run mega over. With that carnage, RCB’s score swelled up to 196 runs. Meanwhile, for CSK, Matheesha Pathirana scalped 2 wickets while Noor Ahmad dismissed 3 batters.

Josh Hazlewood Breaks CSK’s Top Order

With a steep target on board, CSK had a false start in the second inning. Josh Hazlewood proved to be the golden arm for RCB as he removed Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad in a single over, resulting in 2 crushing blows for CSK. While Tripathi holed out to Phil Sal, Gaikwad was caught by Manoj Bhandage, resulting in a four-ball duck.

RCB didn’t relent as Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Deepak Hooda before Liam Livingstone sent back Sam Curran. 4 of CSK’s top 5 batters were dismissed on single-digit scores, leaving the team reeling at 80/6 in 12 overs.

RCB Outplays CSK To Register Historic Win

While Rachin Ravindra showed some resistance, hitting 41 off 31 balls, his solo effort wasn’t enough to put CSK on top. The team kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as MS Dhoni entertained the home crowd with a couple of sixes. Eventually, CSK fell short of 50 runs. With that, RCB clinched their first victory at Chepauk against CSK as they continued their unbeaten run in the IPL 2025 season.
