Lahore Region Blues thumped Peshawar Region in the final to lift the 2025 National T20 Cup at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Thursday, March 27. Under the leadership of forgotten Pakistan star Hussain Talat, the Lahore Blues outclassed their Peshawar counterparts in both aspects of the game with relative ease.
Here’s the timeline of how Peshawar Region vs Lahore Blues panned out in Faisalabad:
Peshawar Region Lose Top Four In Less Than Seven Overs
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Peshawar Region lost each of its top four batters by the time of reaching just 38 in less than seven overs. Left-arm spinner Mohammad Irfan got the opening breakthrough in the form of Peshawar opener Waqar Ahmed for just nine, before Salman Mirza and Qasim Akram (1-2) trapped Maaz Sadaqat and Israullah respectively in front of stumps.
Young Mohammad Rizwan (1-27) caught-and-bowled threatening opener and well-set batter Sahibzada Farhan after the latter reached a near run-a-ball 17.
Salman Mirza Runs Through Peshawar’s Lower-Order
Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Zulkifal and captain Iftikhar Ahmed rectified Peshawar Region’s faltering start with a steady 38-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Lifting Peshawar to 76 in 12 overs after slipping to 38-4, both cricketers listed fighting 30s each to top-score in the innings.
However, Salman Mirza, who struck with the new ball, ran through Peshawar Region’s lower-order with three quick wickets to claim astonishing figures of 4-21. Mirza’s new ball partner Mohammad Irfan also dismissed Zulkifal to pick up his second wicket as Peshawar Region reached a sluggish 110-9 from 20 overs.
Usman Tariq Gets The Early Wicket In Run-Chase
In pursuit of 111, Lahore Region Blues opener Umar Siddiq started off the chase with a flurry of boundaries in the powerplay overs. His opening partner, Imran Butt, however, struggled to get going and was eventually dismissed by Peshawar Region’s economical off-spinner Usman Tariq.
Siddiq Charts Fluent 64* As Lahore Blues Win Title With Ease
Unbeaten Umar Siddiq raged on after partner Imran Butt’s dismissal to chart 64* runs from just 46 balls. Listing six boundaries and two sixes, the cricketer shared an unbroken 66-run partnership for the second wicket with fellow unbeaten batter Junaid Ali (30* off 30 balls).
The two cricketers navigated Lahore Region Blues to a comfortable nine-wicket win in just 16 overs as Hussain Talat and co. lifted the 2025 National T20 Cup in Faisalabad.
