CSK veteran MS Dhoni attained a huge batting record for his franchise despite sustaining a demoralizing defeat to RCB in match number eight of the IPL 2025 season on Friday, March 28. Batting lower down the order for his team, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter compiled 30* quick runs from just 16 deliveries with three boundaries and two huge sixes at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
Notably, through the course of his brief innings, Dhoni soared past former teammate Suresh Raina to become the leading run-scorer in the history of IPL for the CSK franchise.
MS Dhoni becomes CSK’s highest run-maker
MS Dhoni punched out 30* quick runs from just 16 balls with three boundaries and two sixes against RCB in match number eight of the IPL 2025 season. Batting at an unusual number nine position, the legendary stumper scored all his runs while batting with the tail during the slog overs.
Through his latest outing with the bat, Dhoni became the leading run-getter for the CSK franchise in the history of IPL, going past former teammate Suresh Raina.
Dhoni’s tally for CSK in IPL matches currently stands at 4,699 runs, while Suresh Raina confirmed his IPL retirement after amassing 4,687 runs for the franchise.
As it happened, despite MS Dhoni’s sizzling 16-ball knock of 30*, the CSK franchise slipped to a 50-run defeat against RCB at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Chasing 197 for a win, CSK lost Rahul Tripathi, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja to Josh Hazlewood.
Apart from the Australian speedster, Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone also picked up two wickets each for the RCB franchise.
