Former India fast bowler turned chief selector Ajit Agarkar played a big role in providing chances to emerging talents Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal during the recent Test series against England.

According to Hindustan Times, the Indian team management had reservations about Jurel's adaptability to the international arena due to his limited exposure to red ball cricket, having played only 15 first-class games.

However despite this, the national team selector Ajit Agarkar persuaded Rahul Dravid and the Indian captain Rohit Sharma to give the youngster his debut opportunity, and Jurel delivered, proving the chief selector's judgement right.

Here’s what Hindustan Times reported:

"It was Agarkar who suggested Jurel's name. The team management wasn't too confident about him as he was still a rookie. Picking a youngster who hasn't had much red-ball exposure at the top level straightaway into the Indian side for an important series like England was always going to be a brave call but Agarkar had seen enough to vouch for the youngster."

Aside from his brilliant glovework, Dhruv Jurel delivered two outstanding batting displays in the series. His innings of 90 and an unbeaten 39 in Ranchi played a big role in India's remarkable series win.

After the series wrapped up, head coach Rahul Dravid revealed how Ajit Agarkar pushed the team to support the young guns and also gave credit to the selectors for their choices.
