A cricketer who has a love-hate relationship with Indian fans is Shreyas Iyer, who has been the eye of the storm lately.

Iyer, playing for Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 Final against Vidarbha, suffered a relapse of his back injury, which forced the cricketer to miss the action on Days 4 and 5, respectively, which witnessed fans vent their anger against the Board of Control for Cricket in India and secretary Jay Shah.

After Iyer missed Ranji matches prior to getting dropped from BCCI's central contract list, the ruling from the governing board to play domestic cricket, somewhat forced the Mumbai player to play semi-final and final.

Interestingly, Iyer who complained of discomfort during India's Test series against England, only to be dropped after two matches received a medical clearance from National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Taking to social media platform 'X', fans expressed their angst, and displeasure over BCCI's handling of Iyer's case, who underwent a back surgery last year and made a comeback during the ICC World Cup 2023.

A few fans also expressed their request for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to not rush Iyer into the competition, and give the middle-order batter ample rest for recovery.
