The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) revealed plans to increase the prize money for the Mumbai team following their recent victory in the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha.

The MCA announced that the Mumbai team would be granted an extra Rs 5 crore in prize money for reclaiming the Ranji Trophy title after an eight-year hiatus.

Notably, this victory marked Mumbai's 42nd title win in the Ranji Trophy, with their previous win dating back to 2015/16. Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane became the 26th Mumbai captain to win the Ranji Trophy.

“MCA President Amol Kale and Apex Council has decided to double the Ranji Trophy prize money. The MCA will pay additional sum of Rs 5 crore to the winning Mumbai Ranji Trophy team. It has been a great year for the MCA as the association has won 7 titles and we have made it to knockout stage in all age groups in BCCI tournaments,” the statement read.

Praising the MCA's initiative, Mumbai's head coach Omkar Salvi highlighted the importance of doubling the prize money, especially for young players without additional employment or financial resources.

Mumbai set a huge target of 538 runs, then bowled out Vidarbha for 368 runs, clinching the title by 169 runs on Day 3. Musheer Khan from Mumbai was awarded the 'Player of the Match' award for his stellar hundred and two wickets in the final.
