Young batting sensation from Karnataka, Devdutt Padikkal is set to make his debut in the high-stakes fifth and final Test of the India vs England series on Thursday at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

Padikkal stepped into the fray for Rajat Patidar, who suffered an eleventh-hour injury, derailing his participation in the much-anticipated match. Patidar, despite a lukewarm performance in his three-match tenure with a string of low scores (32, 9, 5, 0, 17, and 0.), was sidelined, paving the way for Padikkal's debut.

IND vs ENG: Padikkal makes his debut, Bumrah replaces Akash Deep

It is worth mentioning that at the tender age of 23, Devdutt Padikkal becomes the fifth debutant in this ongoing IND vs ENG Test series, joining the ranks of Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, and Akash Deep.

Padikkal, who has been in scintillating form in the current Ranji Trophy season, amassing 556 runs across four matches at a staggering average of 92.66, including three centuries, seized his chance at the crease with both hands. His first-class career, flourishing with 2227 runs from 31 games and an impressive average of 44.54, stands proof of his skills and potential.

Meanwhile, the English team has won the toss and they have opted to bat first, setting the stage for an exciting clash in Dharamsala. India, already leading the series 3-1, will aim to tighten their grip and seal it with a 4-1 victory.

With the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah, replacing Akash Deep in the playing XI, India has also bolstered its bowling attack, signalling their intent to leave no stone unturned in their quest for domination.
