In a move that signals a new chapter for Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up to inaugurate its all-new National Cricket Academy (NCA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru during its 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM).

According to a report by The Times of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to grace the event, adding further prestige to the occasion. The AGM is reportedly set to take place on September 27 in Bengaluru.

New NCA set to boost both Cricket and Olympic sports

A source close to the developments confirmed the news, stating, "Yes, the new NCA will be inaugurated during the board's AGM at Bengaluru, most likely by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The likely date for the BCCI AGM is Sept 27."

The NCA, which has been hailed as a state-of-the-art facility, marks a significant investment in the future of Indian cricket. However, its significance stretches beyond the cricketing world.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, during a visit to TOI's Mumbai office on August 14, highlighted that the NCA’s doors would be open not just to cricketers but to top Olympic athletes as well, including India's javelin star Neeraj Chopra.

"I spoke to Neeraj Chopra and offered him the opportunity to use our new NCA's facilities in the future," Shah said, highlighting the Academy's broader impact on Indian sports.

The foundation stone for this visionary project was laid in 2022 by Shah himself. Reflecting on the journey, he expressed a sense of destiny in completing the project.

"We got that land in 2008. I am lucky that this was written in my destiny," Shah remarked.

Election of BCCI’s new secretary expected during AGM

As the finishing touches are being put on this world-class facility, the AGM itself will hold additional significance. With Jay Shah set to assume the role of ICC chairman starting December 1, the meeting could also see the election of a new BCCI secretary.

Several names are doing the rounds for the coveted post, including IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel, BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar, and Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley.

As the BCCI prepares to welcome a new era with the inauguration of the NCA, cricket fans and athletes alike will be watching closely, knowing full well that this new academy will be a game-changer, and will play a crucial role in India’s sporting future.
