It is confirmed, Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary has been appointed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

He was elected unopposed and will begin his tenure from December 1, 2024. Jay Shah got the backing of other major cricketing boards, as the new Chairman has a lot of work to do when his tenure begins.

As the new chairperson of the governing body, there are a couple of changes, which are expected from Jay Shah.

Give priority to Test cricket

Somewhere with the advent of T20 cricket, the game's oldest format, Test cricket is getting lost. Nowadays, players give priority to franchise cricket, as more money is involved. Despite the introduction of the World Test Championship, the popularity of Test cricket has decreased.

This would be the first major obstacle for Jay Shah, who himself has stated that promoting Test cricket is on top of his list.

Equal share amongst teams

This is perhaps the biggest challenge for the newly appointed chairman. Right now, more than 40 percent of the ICC revenue is given to BCCI. The Indian cricket board generates majority of the money for ICC, and hence, they get the majority of the chunk.

A lot of former cricketers have voiced their opinion on this, and they want the ICC money to be equally distributed.

More Women's matches

Women's cricket has certainly gained a lot of popularity in the last decade, however, we still don't get to see them playing Test matches. In recent times, only the likes of India, Australia and England have played Test cricket, and that too, they play a solitary game in a series.

The Women's game is growing and it is important to tap into that and give them more Test matches to play.
