Scotland were bamboozled by Australia in the first T20I held on Wednesday. Batting first, the hosts set up a 154 runs total which appeared decent target on the Edinburgh wicket until the monster Travis Head opened the chase for Australia.

Scotland’s celebrations of debutant Jake Fraser McGurk’s early wicket were short-lived as Australia scripted history with 113 runs in powerplay.

Jack Jarvis was taken to the cleaners with 45 runs in just 1.4 overs. Except for Mark Watt, the rest of the Scottish bowlers faced the wrath of Head as they suffered a 7-wicket one-sided defeat.

While Head’s carnage was demoralising, Scotland has learned its lesson and will fight back in the much-win contest on Friday.

Meanwhile, Australia crushed Scotland to finish 155 run chase in mere 9.4 overs, courtesy of Travis Head’s unreal hitting. Despite losing opening partner Jake to a duck, Head scored a blistering half-century in 17 balls and went on to add 30 more runs in the next 8 balls. 

Travis Head was dismissed at 80 for 25 balls before Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis added quick runs to secure a historic victory.

The first T20I turned out to be a one-sided contest for Australia. They have a full-strength squad against an associate member nation, Scotland.  

Regardless, the T20 format is a great leveller. Any team is capable of upsets and hence Australia cannot let their guard down until they win the three-game T20I series.
