In a groundbreaking development, it has been reported that the current PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi is set to replace Jay Shah as the new Asian Cricket Council President (ACC).

Jay Shah appointed new ICC Head, Naqvi to take his place

Naqvi is likely to take over as the President after an ACC meeting, which is scheduled to take place in October-November, this year. Jay Shah held the current position at the ACC, but he was recently appointed as the ICC Chairman, and thus, the 35-year-old had to leave his position.

He served as the President for four years, having received an extension after serving for a three-year period. As per PTI, Naqvi will take over the commands following the meeting in October, and will begin his two-year stint as the new President.

“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term,” the PTI source quoted. “When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over.”

Mohsin Naqvi's PCB tenure is marred with controversies

The first major task for Mohsin Naqvi is to oversee the Asia Cup 2025, which will take place in India. As the head of the PCB and now potentially the ACC, Naqvi also has the task of making sure that the Champions Trophy in Pakistan is conducted smoothly.

There is doubts hanging over India's participation for the mega event, and the new ACC head could be the mediator and bridge the gap between the two nations.

Naqvi, was appointed as the PCB Chairman in February 2024, and since then, his tenure has been marred with controversies. Under his regime, the Pakistan side crashed out of the T20 WC 2024, and recently lost the first Test match against the touring Bangladesh side.
