Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently spoke to the press, on August 26, 2024, and stated that the board is leveraging AI to select squads for the upcoming Champions Cup.

Mohsin Naqvi Makes Shocking Revelation To Improve Pakistan Cricket

Mohsin Naqvi's stated that AI has played a significant role in forming the squads for the Champions Cup, with 80% of player selections driven by AI and the remaining 20% by human input.

"These 150 players that have been selected, 80% of it has been done by AI (Artificial intelligence), and 20% using humans. Nobody can challenge that. We gave about 20% weightage to our selection committee. If we replace a player with a worse one, you'll be the first to complain. We'll have records and we'll all be able to see transparently who deserves a place in the team," Naqvi was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

He stated that the decision to rely on AI for 80% of the player selections was intended to bring more objectivity and transparency, especially given the lack of comprehensive data on many domestic players.

By integrating advanced technology, the PCB aims to address longstanding performance issues and make more informed decisions.

It is crucial to mention that Pakistan cricket is going through a challenging period. The Men in Green recently suffered a shocking defeat to Bangladesh in the recently concluded test match and endured a disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup 2024.

These setbacks have sparked widespread criticism from both fans and former cricketers, who are calling for a major overhaul of the team and questioning the PCB's management and strategies.

The coming months will be pivotal in determining whether AI can truly bring about the positive change that Pakistan cricket desperately needs or if it will only add to the ongoing debate.
