Pat Cummins is all set to captain Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled to begin on March 22. The talismanic Australian skipper, who bagged a whopping contract of INR 20.5 crore in the recently-concluded auction, will lead the Orange Army, as reported by Cricbuzz.

Having won only four out of 14 matches, SRH had a terrible campaign under the leadership of Aiden Markram in the IPL 2023. As a result, they finished at the bottom of the points table. While there have been constant chatter about whether they should bring on a new skipper, or keep faith in Markram, who helped them win back-to-back titles for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 League, or not.

Now that the uncertainty has been dispelled, Cummins, the Australian captain who won the ODI World Cup and as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) in the same year, is prepared to take up leadership roles for the Orange Army.

"The fact that Cummins works with franchise head coach Vettori in the Australian national team also increases his chances to be appointed as the skipper," the Cricbuzz report read.

Under David Warner, SRH was one of the most consistent sides in the IPL a few years ago. Between 2016 and 2020, they qualified for the playoffs for every season, which included a successful IPL campaign in 2016. From thereon, the downfall began, as they finished as eighth, eighth, and 10th in the next three editions.

Cummins will have a duty to turn the tide, and he will have plenty of reinforcements, including Travis Head, to support him.

The Australia skipper will have his first match at SRH's helm against his former side, Kolkata Knight Riders on March 23 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
