Pat Cummins and his men scripted history as Australia brushed India aside in the 2023 World Cup final on November 19, 2023, to claim their sixth ODI World Cup title win. Australia emerged as the first and only team in the tournament to put an end to India’s dominant World Cup journey.

Cummins never put a foot wrong and marshaled his troops very well in front of a jam-packed Ahmedabad crowd who waited in anticipation to see India bury the ghosts of the 2003 World Cup final defeat in Johannesburg.

Following their emphatic ODI World Cup title win, the Australian team returned to their own country where they were expected to receive a hero’s welcome. But much to the surprise of everyone, the airport turned out to be virtually empty there as not many people were present to greet Cummins and his team to bring the World Cup home.

However, there was a slim media presence including a handful of journalists who took the opportunity to snap some photos of him. Winning a World Cup for your country is no ordinary feat. And winning it six times is a record-breaking achievement that deserves to garner some support and recognition.

Nevertheless, the vast majority of the Australian public is fairly accustomed to witnessing such achievements and has treated his arrival as a very ordinary occurrence. In a country that boasts a rich sporting culture, observing such ground-breaking achievements is a frequent occurrence.

Australia commenced their World Cup campaign on a disastrous note succumbing to two massive defeats at the hands of India and South Africa. But subsequently, the Men in Yellow staged a remarkable turnaround by winning their remaining fixtures to power themselves to their sixth title. The 2023 World Cup finalists will once again meet in the upcoming 5-match T20I series which is scheduled to run from November 23 to December 3.
