Pat Cummins Appointed As SRH Captain For IPL 2024, Replaces SA20 Winner Aiden Markram

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has been appointed as the new captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise for the forthcoming IPL 2024 season. The legendary fast bowler, who was roped in by the franchise for a staggering sum at the IPL 2024 auction last December, will be replacing Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s SA20 winning captain Aiden Markram.

On March 4, i.e., roughly three weeks prior to the launch of the IPL 2024 season, the SRH franchise announced Australia’s 2023 World Cup winning skipper Pat Cummins as their new captain.

South African-based Aiden Markram led the SRH franchise back in IPL 2023. Even though the cricketer has enjoyed unprecedented success for SRH’s subsidiary Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20, his IPL leadership for SRH attracted much criticism after the ‘Orange Army’ earned the wooden-spooners tag last year.
Pat Cummins’ leadership stocks, on the other hand, grew exponentially after he led Australia to their sixth World Cup title win by defeating India in the 2023 final back in November.
The following month, Cummins was acquired by the SRH franchise at the auction for a staggering sum of Rs.20.50 crore, thus becoming the second costliest purchase in the history of any IPL bidding event.
As of now, the SRH team is lined up to face the KKR franchise in their opening match of the IPL 2024 season on March 23. Their much-awaited faceoff will be staged at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
