Pakistan ‘unsuccessfully’ threatened to boycott their Asia Cup 2025 match against UAE in Dubai. India Women opener Smriti Mandhana claimed a huge batting record in ODIs by scoring a match-winning century against Australia. In other news, Phil Salt sustained his prolific touch with the bat, this time unleashing his carnage in Dublin against the Irish bowlers.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Wednesday, September 17.

Pakistan Delay UAE Match By An Hour By Threatening Boycott

The Pakistan cricket team, in its attempt of boycotting their Group A match of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup against hosts UAE, merely managed to delay the proceedings by an hour in Dubai. As per reports, the PCB instructed the Pakistan team to boycott the match, and even mulled pulling out of the tournament. However, the Agha Salman-led ‘Men in Green’ group eventually took a U-turn by arriving at the stadium, albeit much later than the scheduled time. Moreover, former Zimbabwe cricketer Andy Pycroft even officiated the match as a referee, something the PCB objected to ever since Pakistan team’s entire ‘handshake saga’ with Team India.

Three Ducks In A Row For Saim Ayub To Claim Unwanted Record

Pakistan opener Saim Ayub fell for a two-ball duck to Junaid Siddique in match 10 of the 2025 Asia Cup. Ayub’s latest failure marked his third successive duck in T20Is, all during the ongoing tournament. The 23-year-old has now become only the third Pakistani cricketer in history to register three or more ducks in a row in the format, joining an unwanted list which features the likes of Abdullah Shafique and former captain Mohammad Hafeez.

Smriti Mandhana Notches Up Landmark ODI Ton Vs AUS

Prolific India opener Smriti Mandhana clattered 117 runs off 91 balls with 14 boundaries and four sixes against Australia Women in the second ODI of the three-match series. While the innings marked Mandhana’s 12th ODI century, it also made her the joint most century-maker in ODIs as an opener alongside Suzie Bates and Tammy Beaumont, with 12 tons each.

Smriti Mandhana’s ton also powered Team India’s emphatic 102-run win over Australia to level the series in New Chandigarh with a game to spare. Kranti Goud and Deepti Sharma picked up five wickets between them to restrict Australia to 190 in a chase of 293 runs.

Hasabnis Replaces Jemimah Rodrigues In AUS ODI Series

India Women middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the final two ODIs of the three-match series against Australia Women at home. The decision was made by the BCCI prior to the start of the second ODI match, as Rodrigues is suffering from a viral fever. It is worth noting that the 25-year-old played a crucial role in India’s ODI series win in England a couple of months ago, aggregating over 100 runs in three innings.

The BCCI has now named Maharashtra batter Tejal Hasabnis as a replacement player

Phil Salt Fires England To Big Win With 46-Ball 89

Attacking opener Phil Salt fired England to a huge win over Ireland in the first T20I of the three-match series in Dublin. Chasing 197, Salt blasted 89 runs off just 46 balls with 10 fours and four sixes to bag the ‘Player of the Match’ award, as England sealed the deal with four wickets and 14 balls to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the series. A few days ago, the 29-year-old Englishman also towered over the South Africans with a record-shattering 141* from 60 balls in Manchester.
