In a significant development, India Women have been dealt another setback in their ongoing three-match ODI series against Australia in New Chandigarh, with Jemimah Rodrigues ruled out of the remainder of the series due to viral fever. The BCCI confirmed that its medical team is closely monitoring her recovery, while the Women’s Selection Committee has named Tejal Hasabnis as her replacement.

Hasabnis, a promising middle-order batter, made her international debut in last year’s ODI series against New Zealand. Since then, she has featured in six ODIs for India, with her most recent appearance coming earlier this year in January against Ireland.

The 28-year-old was also part of the India A squad that toured Australia recently and had been included in the standby list for both this three-match series and the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup. Now, with Rodrigues’ unavailability, Hasabnis finds herself back in the senior squad and could have an opportunity to stake a claim in the middle order if selected.

India Face Double Setback as Rodrigues Joins Yastika on Sidelines

Rodrigues’ absence is the second major blow to India ahead of the series, after Yastika Bhatia was earlier ruled out due to a knee injury sustained during preparations in Visakhapatnam. These disruptions have left India in a tricky position, especially after their comprehensive defeat in the opening ODI, which exposed questions in all departments.

With two matches left, Harmanpreet Kaur and her side will be determined to regroup quickly and bounce back against a dominant Australian unit that looks in brilliant touch ahead of defending their world cup crown. For India, the remaining games not only present a chance to level the series but also serve as vital preparation in their goal of a maiden World Cup title.
