It seems like Saim Ayub cannot catch a break, and his recent performances in the Asia Cup 2025 tell the entire story. The southpaw came into the Asia Cup event on the back of a decent showing in T20Is, but the marquee event started his horror run with the bat, as he registered his third consecutive duck of the tournament against the UAE.

Saim Ayub was underconfident heading into the clash vs the UAE, as he had registered two ducks in a row (vs Oman and India). The stakes were high for the opening batter, and he failed to deliver once again and departed for a 2-ball duck, thus giving an early advantage to the UAE bowlers.

Saim Ayub enters the unwanted Pakistan club

With yet another failure in the Asia Cup, Ayub became just the third Pakistan cricketer to register three or more ducks in a row in T20Is.  Between 2020-23, another opening batter, Abdullah Shafique had registered four consecutive ducks for Pakistan in T20Is, and before that, it was Mohammad Hafeez in 2012, who failed to score in three games in a row. Now, Ayub joins the unwanted club, as this was his third T20I game where he couldn’t get off the mark.

Saim Ayub's average T20I journey

He was once considered the successor of Fakhar Zaman at the top of the order, but the batter never really flew from the ground as his T20I career has gone downhill. Before this game, Ayub had played 43 T20I matches and had only scored 816 runs with a strike rate of 136.

In 43 games, he has only had four fifties and is yet to deliver the goods for Pakistan as his place looks in jeopardy.
