In a significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Board has added Zahid Mahmood to the men's squad for the first Test of the upcoming three-match series against England. According to Geo Super, the leg-spinner will join his teammates in the pre-match camp ahead of the series opener in Multan.

In its official statement, the PCB also revealed that Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Ali would continue to feature in the domestic games in order to keep themselves ready for the series. However, despite adding three reserves, the board confirmed that Pakistan's squad for the first Test would be trimmed to 15 players.

"Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Ali will remain on reserve but will continue playing domestic matches to stay match-ready. All three players are part of the Pakistan Test team setup, but 15 players are sufficient for the home Test series due to cricketing and logistical reasons," the PCB was quoted as saying by Geo Super.

Zahid Mahmood's Test Career

Renowned for his wily spin variations, Zahid Mahmood made his Test debut in December 2022. In two matches, he has scalped 12 wickets at an average of 36.16 and a strike rate of 31.2. Interestingly, both of his Test appearances have come against England on home soil. Recently, he was impressive with the ball in the domestic circuit, paving the way for his Test comeback.
