As per emerging reports, this year's mega auction will allow the IPL franchises to retain up to five players heading to the tournament's next edition. The IPL mega auction is no less than a cricket carnival, where hundreds of players go under the hammer and shift their bases.

Meanwhile, according to several reputed media outlets, the teams can retain a maximum of five players before the mega auction. Furthermore, the Right To Match (RTM) card, which the franchises use to buy a released player back into their setup, might not be available.

So, as the mega auction draws near, let's see which players the Delhi Capitals could retain heading to the event.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

Australia's explosive batter Jake Fraser-McGurk was outstanding in his maiden IPL seasonOpening the batting for Delhi Capitals, Fraser-McGurk hammered 330 runs at an impressive average of 36.67 and an unbelievable strike rate of 234.04.

His ability to capitalise on field restrictions and torment the opposition in the powerplay makes him a valuable asset at the top order. Considering his prolific form, the Capitals will likely retain the Aussie batting sensation ahead of his competitors, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw.

Kuldeep Yadav

India's experienced spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been a vital cog in Delhi Capitals' setup. The left-arm wrist spinner has scalped 47 wickets in 39 innings, proving his bowling mettle in the middle overs.

Given that Kuldeep can outfox the batters with his guile, the Capitals will likely retain him and use him as their lead spinner. His ability and experience can be handy for them on Delhi's spin-friendly deck in the IPL 2025.

Axar Patel

India's reputed bowling all-rounder Axar Patel has exhibited remarkable form with bat and ball of late. Axar Patel is one of the most evolved Indian cricketers and raised his stock following a memorable batting performance in India's triumphant T20 World Cup final against South Africa.

Besides being one of DC's key bowlers, Axar can ensure a fitting finish to their innings with his flamboyant stroke play. So, his retention should be a no-brainer for the Capitals, who would be keen to clinch their maiden title next year.

Tristan Stubbs

Tristan Stubbs' rise in the IPL has been exponential, to say the least. After being released by Mumbai Indians, the South African batter was picked up by the Capitals in the mega auction. He showcased remarkable form in the IPL 2024, playing a pivotal role in Delhi's several group-stage victories.

Batting in the middle order, Stubbs struck 378 runs, including three scintillating half-centuries. Although he played some exceptional knocks, his 25-ball 71* against Mumbai Indians was a testament to his incredible power-hitting prowess. So, Stubbs will likely be one of DC's top retentions and shoulder their middle-order batting in IPL 2025.

Rishabh Pant

Since joining the franchise, Rishabh Pant has been the face of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. The wicket-keeper, who leads the Capitals, is the backbone of their batting unit.

The swashbuckling southpaw has enjoyed stellar success for DC in the IPL, amassing 3284 runs at an average of 35.31 and a blistering strike rate of 148.93. He also had a great season this year, scoring 446 runs at a strike rate of 155.40. So, considering his batting exploits and leadership qualities, Pant will likely be DC's first retention.
