Fabian Allen, currently representing the Paarl Royals franchise in South Africa for the SA20 2024 season, became victim of a gunpoint mugging in Johannesburg. He was targeted outside the Sandton Sun hotel on February 5, i.e., just a day after Royals faced defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in their final league game of the tournament.

According to sources, Allen was confronted by several gun-laden assailants, who forcibly snatched away his phone, a bag and other personal belongings. Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed the incident and assured that the cricketer is unharmed. They have also established contact with the 28-year-old.

Fabian Allen has played eight out of Paarl Royals’ 10 league fixtures this SA20 2024 season. During their game against Joburg Super Kings back on January 24, the 28-year-old West Indies all-rounder thwacked two match-winning sixes, including one in the penultimate over to seal a remarkable run-chase for his side.

Paarl Royals will now once again face the Joburg Super Kings, albeit this time in the all-important Eliminator showdown. The match will be hosted by the iconic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, and the action will commence from 9:00 PM IST onwards on February 7.

The winner of the match will subsequently face the winner of Qualifier 1 the following evening at the same venue.
