In a moment that strayed from his typically calm and composed nature, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson found himself in an unexpected spotlight during the first Test of the two-match series against South Africa. Known for his cool presence both on and off the field, Williamson's reaction to an unforeseen incident has caught the attention of fans and followers around the globe.

NZ vs SA: Gentleman Williamson's uncharacteristic gesture catches attention

While engaged in a pre-game stretching routine on the field, using a resistance band to prepare for the day's play, Williamson was taken by surprise when a ball, presumably thrown by a teammate, struck him on his left leg. The incident, which occurred amidst the intense focus of the match preparations, prompted an uncharacteristic response from the usually reserved skipper.

In a moment of pain and surprise, Williamson momentarily dropped his guard, flashing his middle finger in the direction of the throw. This rare display of frustration from the otherwise composed captain was captured on video and swiftly circulated across social media platforms, becoming a viral sensation.

Despite this brief departure from his usual behaviour, Williamson's performance in the first Test has been prolific. Showing his incredible skill and focus, he scored his 30th Test century, amassing 118 runs and contributing significantly to New Zealand's commanding first-innings total of 511.

This achievement places him alongside Joe Root in the century tally among active players, trailing only behind Steve Smith (32) among active players. Remarkably, this century marks Williamson's fifth in his last nine innings in Test cricket.

Alongside teammate Rachin Ravindra's double hundred, Williamson's century has positioned New Zealand in a dominant position early in the series. Following their robust batting performance, the Kiwis delivered a formidable bowling performance, dismissing South Africa for a mere 162 in their first innings.

As the match progresses, with New Zealand extending their lead and Williamson back at the crease, the focus shifts back to cricket, leaving the fleeting moment of frustration as a rare glimpse into the human side of the Kiwi stalwart.
