India has high hopes for their teenage sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, in the Under-19 World Cup, and while the batter started the warm-up games with a breathtaking 96 against Scotland, he failed to deliver the goods in the clash against the England Under-19 side.

Before the marquee Under-19 event, teams are playing warm-up games, and India took on England in Bulawayo. On a wicket that had some moisture and help for the pacers, Suryavanshi couldn’t do much as England pacer, Sebastian Morgan had the last laugh and dismissed the Indian opener cheaply.

Suryavanshi fails against a quality opponent

He took down Scotland with utmost ease and made a mockery of their bowling attack, but against a strong English attack, he couldn’t do much and departed for just 1 off 4 deliveries. His same old problem was exploited by fast bowler Morgan as the batter edged one to the keeper and failed to deliver the goods.

The ball was doing enough in the early going for the Pacers, and the batter once again poked at the delivery, as his old problems against moving ball resurfaced before the World Cup.

He has been dismissed multiple times against the moving ball, and England pacer Morgan exploited the same weakness to delt India with an early blow.

Suryavanshi's importance in Indian team

Even at just 14, Suryavanshi is India’s most important player in the Under-19 World Cup squad. The things that he can do are unparalleled, and India would want him to dominate the proceedings once the main tournament starts.

There are other big names in the team as well, but Suryavanshi has racked up runs everywhere and has been in stellar form before the England game came up. He can score runs quickly and can take the game away in the blink of an eye. Hence, despite boasting other talents in the team, Suryavanshi remains India's best bet.

How Indian batters fared after Suryavanshi’s dismissal

While the 14-year-old star batter failed, another bright talent, Ayush Mhatre, capitalised as he scored a brisk 49 off 40 balls, but the middle-order failed against a strong bowling attack.

However, keeper Abhigyan Kundu and RS Ambrish came to the Indian rescue as the duo resurrected the Indian innings, and at the time of writing, India is 223/6, with Kundu breaching the fifty-run mark, and Ambrish dismissed for a well-compiled 48 as India aim to score a commanding total to challenge the English side.
