The Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB W) as well as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchises have been shortlisted for a category in the upcoming Indian Sports Honours Award. While the RCB franchise won the WPL 2024 season earlier this year, a Shreyas Iyer-led KKR group ended its decade-long title drought by clinching the IPL 2024 trophy.

Both franchises have been shortlisted for the ‘Club of the Year’ nominations category at the impending awards.

RCB Women, KKR nominated for awards

RCB Women and KKR franchises have been shortlisted for a nomination category and are in contention of bagging the ‘Club of the Year’ award at the upcoming Indian Sports Honours Award. Other clubs to feature in the category are Puneri Paltan, a Kabaddi team from India’s prestigious PKL competition and Indian football club Mohun Bagan SG.

The upcoming fifth edition of the Indian Sports Honours awards will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Juhu, Mumbai on November 9.

Apart from RCB Women and KKR, cricket also has its presence at the awards on an individual level in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh and Shreyanka Patil. While young Yashasvi and Rinku were shortlisted in the ‘Breakthrough Performance of the Year Male’ category, women’s spinner Shreyanka is one of the four contenders to win its female category alongside sport shooter Esha Singh, swimmer Dhinidhi Desinghu and field hockey player Salima Tete.

The RCB Women franchise won the WPL 2024 season by defeating Delhi Capitals in a lop-sided final in Delhi on March 17. Sophie Molineux delivered a ‘Player of the Match’ performance in the title clash while Smriti Mandhana became the first RCB skipper across both men and women’s categories to lead the franchise to a trophy.
