No Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma; Shaheen Afridi Rates 'This' Batter As Toughest

Pakistan speed demon Shaheen Afridi has dismantled the best of batting line-ups the world over with his sublime new-ball dexterity. Over the years, the legendary left-arm paceman has formed some fierce rivalries with some of the greatest names of the modern era, including the likes of Virat Kohli, David Warner and Rohit Sharma among others.

Apparently, Shaheen also holds South African great Hashim Amla in high regards, considering the 23-year-old recently praised the former Proteas cricketer by describing him as his “toughest” opponent yet.


Shaheen Afridi Rates Hashim Amla As Toughest

During a live interaction on X (formerly Twitter), Shaheen Afridi was asked to name the toughest batsman he has ever bowled to. Without hesitation, the Pakistani speed maverick picked former South African cricketer Hashim Amla by saying:

“Hashim Amla is the toughest batter I have bowled to in my career.”

Interestingly, Shaheen Afridi made his international debut in 2018, i.e., just a year before Hashim Amla made his exit from the game. Both cricketers went up against each other a handful of times in Tests and ODIs during the two-year period, during which Shaheen managed to upstage the South African twice (both times in ODIs).

Amla also encountered the ‘Men in Green’ paceman during a franchise-based T20 match in 2020. Overall, the former batsman averages over 41 against Afridi across all formats of the game.

Shaheen Afridi was recently playing in ILT20 2024. The speedster snapped up six wickets from five games of the tournament.

The cricketer was also allotted Pakistan’s T20I captaincy a couple of months ago following Babar Azam’s resignation. Under his maiden leadership stint, the Pakistan team slumped to a 1-4 series defeat in New Zealand.
