Underfire Shubman Gill redeemed himself with a magnificent hundred against England in the second Test in Vizag. However, apparently, the young batter had been put under intense pressure by the Indian management as they issued him a final ultimatum after Hyderabad's failures.

Shubman Gill has been dropped down to the number 3 position in the red ball format ever since India seemingly moved on from Cheteshwar Pujara. However, the change in position exposed Gill's technical flaws as he registered back-to-back failures.

Moreover, the lack of runs from his willow during the Hyderabad Test against England raised many eyebrows as doubt over Gill's capabilities crept in.

Meanwhile, a fresh report from Indian Express suggests that India was ready to move on from Gill after the Vizag Test. The media portal claimed that Indian management had issued an ultimatum to Gill after back-to-back failures in Hyderabad. They apparently told him to either perform or move back to Ranji Trophy after the second Test.

Additionally, Gill reportedly told a family member that he would play for Punjab in a Ranji Trophy game against Gujarat on February 9 to sharpen up his basics and reverse the flaws in his batting technique.

Regardless of the extreme pressure being put on him by the highest authority, Shubman Gill redeemed himself to shut down his critics and doubters. After a 34-run knock in the first innings, Gill came roaring back in the second innings to slam a scintillating hundred against the odds.

Despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma early on to James Anderson's masterclass, Gill held his ground to ensure a deep run.

Luck favored the brave batter as well as he escaped two LBW appeals during the initial phase of his long innings. Understandably, Gill held off the celebrations and breathed a sigh of relief as he surpassed the milestone.

Not only that, but owing to Gill's exceptional ton, India managed to post a 399-run target for the visitors. He single-handedly managed to earn India a fighting chance in the gripping Vizag Test.
