Yashasvi Jaiswal pulled off a one-man show against England in the ongoing Vizag Test as he registered his maiden test double hundred. However, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has urged the fans to keep their expectations in check.

A 22-year-old young opening batter from Mumbai stole the show against England in the Vizag Test. He was the only batter in the star-studded Indian lineup to ensure a deep run. While the rest of the squad couldn't manage to secure a half-century, Jaiswal capitalized on his opportunity to slam his maiden double ton.

Jaiswal registered his career-best 290 runs knock and became the third youngest Indian to have achieved the feat. Needless to say, cricket fans from across the globe rated the young batter's fearlessness and grit highly.

However, amid heavy praises, Gautam Gambhir, former Indian cricketer and now a member of parliament, has urged fans and media to keep expectations in check for Yashasvi Jaiswal.

While speaking to PTI, Gambhir called out Indian media's problematic culture where the portals overhype a player when he does well on a given day.

Gambhir feels that sort of excessive media coverage leads to unrealistic expectations, which in turn hampers a player's self-confidence.

"I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play. We have seen in the past that in India we have a habit, especially the media, to overhype their achievements and give them tags and make them look like heroes," Gambhir told PTI.

The former cricketer added that excess pressure drives a player away from his natural game, which eventually leads to disaster.

"The pressure of expectations gets the better of them and the players are not able to play their natural game. Let him grow and enjoy his cricket," he added.

Thus, Gambhir urged the fans and media to allow a player enough time to grow into a mature cricketer and just be patient during rough patches. He even backed Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, who are currently going through patch.

"We should give them time as they are quality players and they have shown it in the past with their performance. That is why they are playing for India," Gambhir concluded.

The member of parliament feels the kids are still young. But they do have the talent to excel at the highest level. There's a reason they are playing for India, and the fans must back them.
