West Indies Out, South Africa Into The Semis? What If WI vs SA Is Abandoned Due To Rain

In an unfortunate turn of events, the high-voltage T20 World Cup face-off between West Indies and South Africa has been interrupted due to rain. Batting first, West Indies posted a sub-par 135-run total, despite valiant contributions from Roston Chase and Kyle Mayers.

However, chasing 136, South Africa had a disastrous start, with Andre Russell dismissing both their openers, Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock, in quick succession.

Just after Russell got De Kock's wicket, rain arrived in Antigua to interrupt the proceedings. As of writing, although the rain has stopped, the game hasn't resumed owing to a wet outfield.

What If WI vs SA Is Abandoned Due To Rain?

Considering it's a knockout fixture for both teams, South Africa will make it to the semis if the game gets abandoned due to rain.

Currently, the Proteas have four points, while the Windies have only two. So, if the match gets called off, both teams will get a point each, with South Africa topping group 2 with five points. This will take them to the semifinal, while West Indies will bow out of the competition.

Meanwhile, we have started losing overs from 8.51am IST. If the game doesn't resume by 10.08 IST, it will be called off, with South Africa going ahead.

Update: At 8.59 AM IST, we got the positive news that the match would resume at 9.15 AM IST. It will be a 17-over affair, with the revised target for South Africa being 123 runs. So, they need 108 more runs to win in 15 overs.
