The BCCI has initiated serious measures after the unfortunate stampede accident that occurred during the RCB's IPL 2025 title win celebrations in Bengaluru. This unfortunate event led to the loss of 11 innocent lives and raised concerns about crowd safety during major cricket events.

The accident happened on June 4 when RCB held a victory celebration in Bengaluru hours after they won the IPL 2025 title by beating the Punjab Kings. Since it was RCB’s first IPL title, the crowd turned up in numbers at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

But poor preparation and management caused a fatal stampede outside the stadium, killing 11 innocent spectators, and shocking the nation.

BCCI To Contemplate Safety Measures After Stampede Incident

Meanwhile, following the accident, the BCCI initially distanced itself, saying the event was organised privately by RCB. However, during the Apex Council meeting held on June 14, the board decided to take preventive action.

In an official statement, BCCI expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced the formation of a special committee to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The committee will work to develop strong and clear-cut guidelines that ensure fan and participant safety while celebrating or participating in any cricket-related activity.

Interestingly, the committee will include three members, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, and Rajeev Shukla.

These members have been given the responsibility to study the incident, identify where things went wrong, and suggest practical safety measures. The BCCI has set a deadline of 15 days for the committee to prepare and submit its report.

Currently, the accident is being heard in the Karnataka High Court. Three accused, including the RCB marketing head, were given bail on no solid grounds. There is still no accountability, as the government, police, and RCB have blamed each other for the unfortunate stampede.
