Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen has publicly warned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL management that he may be forced to take legal action if the ongoing silence over his team’s franchise renewal continues.

The dispute came to light when Tareen posted a strongly worded message on social media, saying that he and his team had been “ghosted” for weeks.

According to him, Multan Sultans are the only franchise yet to receive a renewal offer, while the other five teams have already been handed updated contracts based on fresh valuations.

Ali Tareen threatens to escalate PSL renewal row

Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen expressed frustration, saying the issue could have been resolved over tea and biscuits, but has instead turned into an unnecessary standoff due to what he called fragile egos.

He revealed that Multan Sultans had sent several emails, legal notices, and even a formal letter to the PCB Chairman, but none of them received any acknowledgement.

This silence raises serious concerns because, as per the existing agreement, Multan Sultans’ contract runs until December 31, 2025.

This means the PSL management is legally required to share all financial information, including the latest franchise valuations done by Ernst & Young (EY), with the team.

Since the franchise has not been suspended or accused of any contractual violations, Ali Tareen believes withholding these documents is a breach of their agreement.

What makes the matter more complicated is that the cost of the EY valuation exercise was reportedly paid out of PSL’s central funds. The funds contributed by all franchises, including Multan.

According to Tareen, the PCB is obligated to share the report with him in a transparent manner.

PCB avoids Multan Sultans in renewal statement

Meanwhile, the PCB has issued a separate statement confirming that renewal offer letters have been shared with all compliant franchises, but without mentioning Multan Sultans.

There have also been rumours that the PCB is considering action against Tareen for supposedly breaching the PSL code of conduct, though no official communication has been made.

The PSL is also exploring expansion options, with cities like Hyderabad, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi under consideration for future teams.

But at a time when the league is trying to grow, the conflict with one of its own owners could cast an unwanted shadow.
