Sanju Samson has officially stepped into the iconic yellow of Chennai Super Kings, feeling like a champion. And his reaction says everything about how big this moment is for him.

In one of the most dramatic trades in IPL history, CSK brought the Rajasthan Royals captain to Chennai ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction.

The move stunned fans even more because it involved two major names going the other way, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.

Sanju Samson expresses his love for ‘Yellow’

In a video posted by CSK, Sanju Samson was seen wearing his new No. 11 yellow jersey for the first time.

Usually seen in the darker shades of RR blue or Kerala’s deep colours, Samson admitted that slipping into bright CSK gold hit differently.

He said the energy, the colour, and the emotion of wearing a jersey he had admired from afar for years made him feel “like a champion.”

“I have been waiting for this day and I'm very fortunate that I am going to wear the yellow jersey. I always am in my dark colours like black, blue, brown, but yellow. Definitely, I think great feeling. To wear that jersey, I never thought about how I would feel after wearing CSK… it felt positive and I felt very happy. It felt different, like a different energy. I felt like a champion. I felt like, okay, wow," Samson said.

This moment has been building for years. Fans have always wondered who would eventually take over the leadership mantle at CSK after MS Dhoni.

Sanju Samson, with 177 IPL matches, 4704 runs, three centuries, and 26 fifties, arrives as one of the most experienced Indian batters in the league.

But this emotional signing came with a big price. CSK said goodbye to Ravindra Jadeja, a legend of the franchise for over a decade.

It was a massive three-player swap that shook the auction landscape. While Jadeja will now play for Rajasthan Royals at a slightly reduced fee, Samson will join CSK on his existing ₹18 crore contract.

Samson will not be given captaincy by CSK

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson will mostly play as a specialist batter for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026. CSK has confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue to be the captain.

He missed IPL 2025 with an injury as MS Dhoni stepped in as stand-in captain. But next year, Gaikwad will resume his role as skipper.

Moreover, Dhoni is also likely to feature in IPL 2026 with no retirement on the cards. Hence, Sanju Samson will miss out on the wicket-keeping role as well.
