In a significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a major step towards expanding the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The board has completed the long-awaited independent valuation of all existing franchises. Alongside this development,  according to reports, the PCB has also shortlisted six cities for the two new teams that will join PSL in 2026.

It is important to mention that the shortlisted cities are Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit and Rawalpindi. The PCB has also confirmed that two new teams will officially join the league in 2026. The final selection will be made during an open auction, where bidders can choose their preferred city from the shortlist.

PCB completes Franchise valuation

It is worth noting that the valuation was carried out by EY MENA. After the process was completed, the PCB sent renewal offer letters to all existing franchises. The current six franchises are Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, and Multan Sultans.

These letters include updated financial terms for the next 10-year cycle. Teams have been asked to communicate their decisions within the given deadline. To maintain transparency, the PCB has arranged both joint and individual meetings between franchise owners and the valuation team.

These meetings will help teams understand the valuation model and ask questions before finalising their commitments.

"The audit firm has sent renewal letters to the six franchises reflecting the new annual franchise fees for the next 10 years and the teams have been requested to revert with their decisions in the given time frame," one official said.

Earlier PSL CEO Salman Naseer revealed that an auction would take place for the new franchises. He confirmed again that bidding parties will be free to select their city from the approved pool.

The tender process for the sale of the two new teams is expected to start soon, moving the expansion plan into its next phase.
