If all falls into place, another promising talent in the vein of Malinga could soon grace the IPL stage. Recent reports indicate that CSK has been closely tracking a young bowler from Sri Lanka named Kugadas Mathulan, whose bowling action bears a striking resemblance to Malinga's unique style.

It seems that Dhoni has a keen eye for uncanny bowling actions, particularly in pacers who can deliver toe-crushing yorkers at crucial moments.

During the lockdown period, Dhoni discovered Matheesha Pathirana while the latter was still playing for his school. Pathirana's success with CSK has been remarkable, playing a vital role in their title victory last year by claiming 19 wickets.

Pathirana's hamstring injury, suffered while representing Sri Lanka against Bangladesh, will keep him out of action for the initial matches with CSK. However, MSD and the CSK management are unwilling to take any chances with his recovery.

In light of Pathirana's absence and Devon Conway being ruled out for the season, CSK reportedly is seeking for a replacement. It appears that they are not just looking for any pacer, but someone with qualities similar to Pathirana's, underlining the importance of finding the right fit for their squad.

CSK has scouted Kugadas Mathulan, a 17-year-old talent hailing from  Jaffna. Dhoni, intrigued by Mathulan's bowling prowess, expressed a personal interest in analyzing the young bowler after viewing few clips of his performances.

However, it remains uncertain whether Mathulan will join the CSK squad after the meeting with Dhoni or if he will serve as a net bowler for the team.

The Slinga Legacy

Lasith Malinga's impact on the IPL extends beyond his remarkable bowling prowess; he has inspired countless bowlers and left an enduring legacy. The Malinga-Bumrah story is well-known, and in Sri Lanka, numerous aspiring bowlers look up to Malinga as a role model.

Matheesha Pathirana's success with CSK is a testament to Malinga's influence, and Nuan Thushara, after his recent hat-trick for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh could mark another success story.

Thushara will have the privilege of being trained by Malinga himself at Mumbai Indians, and Kugadas Mathulan could very well be the next talented bowler in line. Only time will tell, and cricket fans eagerly await their future performances.
