In a heartbreaking news that came earlier today, Devon Conway has been ruled out of the major part of the IPL 2024, if not the entire, due to a thumb injury that he sustained during New Zealand’s recent T20I series against Australia.

It will be a massive blow for MS Dhoni and Co., given that he has been an integral part of the Yellow Army’s success lately, and, notably, was the Player of the Match during their last season’s final against Gujarat Titans.

However, the setback for the Kiwi opener could be a blessing in disguise for his countrymate, Rachin Ravindra, who has recently been in the news more often than not.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will open alongside Ravindra, whereas Ajinkya Rahane, who has been in terrible form in the Ranji Trophy 2024, could keep his place at No. 3. Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell, who have injury concerns, should be fit before the tournament begins.

Sameer Rizvi, who has been in stellar form in India’s domestic circuit, could be used as an impact substitution, while Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni will do the finisher’s duties.

Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar will be there as well, meaning that CSK bat very deep with Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana – the star Sri Lankan duo – playing as their only designated bowlers.
