Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from an ankle injury, has been named in Bengal's probable squad for the upcoming 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season according to multiple reputed sources.

Mohammed Shami became a crucial part of India's pace attack across formats, especially in the Tests and ODIs. In ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Shami, who came in as a replacement for Hardik Pandya in the XI, ended up being the highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets in 7 games.

However, Shami endured a serious ankle injury for which the BCCI sent him abroad for surgery. Since then, the fast bowler has been in rehabilitation under the guidance of National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami recently started training in the nets and is eyeing a return during the upcoming home season, which includes a Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

Shami Eyes India Return

Amid the rumours, Mohammed Shami has been named in Bengal's 31-member probable squad for the impending Ranji Trophy season. Although Shami’s availability will depend on his fitness status, having his name on the list is a positive sign for Bengal cricket.

Interestingly, Shami's brother, Mohammed Kaif, has also made the cut into the probable squad. Additionally, Wriddhiman Saha is set to reunite with Bengal after drifting away to Tripura for a while.

That being said, Shami's return timeline into the national squad is still uncertain. The selection committee wants to avert any risks of injury aggravation, especially in the wake of the upcoming Border Gavaskar trophy which consists of five Test games.
