In the latest development around Mohammed Shami's return to the Indian team, there are reports that the BCCI is in no rush to fastback right-arm seamer's return to the playing XI, as they want him to be fully fit for the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November.

Shami, who underwent surgery six months ago for an ankle injury which he suffered during the 2023 World Cup, is currently at the NCA and has resumed bowling. Earlier, there were reports that he might return to the Indian set-up through the Bangladesh series slated at home from September 19.

However, recent media posts suggested that Shami is yet to fully recover, which is why he will skip the Bangladesh series and is eyeing to play the New Zealand Tests starting from October 16 till November 5. Meanwhile, the board is looking after his workload management, and has priorities the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is why Shami is likely to skip the first Test and be available for just the 2nd and 3rd red-ball games.

Shami To Play Ranji Trophy

Recently, Shami too assessed his injury and remarked that he is unsure of his return, but confirmed that he would first play domestic cricket and then play for India. The right-arm seamer will feature for Bengal in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season and is likely to feature against UP on October 11.
