Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, May 1.
Mumbai Indians Blank Rajasthan Royals
Mumbai Indians crushed Rajasthan Royals to register their sixth successive win of the IPL 2025 season. Batting first, the visitors mounted 217-2 from 20 overs in Jaipur, with both openers Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38) and Rohit Sharma (53 off 36) smearing majestic half-centuries. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya also clubbed unbeaten 48s from 23 balls each to turbo-charge the innings at the death.
In response, Rajasthan Royals folded up for just 117 in 16.1 overs to fall 100 runs short of their target. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah picked up five wickets between them for the visitors, while spinner Karn Sharma cleaned up the Royals’ tail with a scintillating three-fer.
Suryakumar Yadav Bags Orange Cap Of IPL 2025
Mumbai Indians legend Suryakumar Yadav soared past RCB’s Virat Kohli and Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan to claim the coveted ‘Orange Cap’ of the IPL 2025 season. The cricketer blasted 48 unbeaten runs from just 23 balls against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, whacking four boundaries and three huge sixes in the process. Suryakumar’s slog overs cameo extended his IPL 2025 tally to 475 runs from 11 innings at a splendid average of 67.85 with an astonishing strike rate of 172.72. He is currently 19 runs ahead of second-placed Virat Kohli in the ‘Orange Cap’ list.
Sandeep Sharma Ruled Out Of Remainder Of IPL 2025
Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Sandeep Sharma has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. The speedster suffered a finger injury during Rajasthan’s home fixture against Gujarat Titans earlier this week while fielding off his own bowling. Sandeep has so far picked up nine wickets for the Rajasthan Royals franchise this season from 10 innings, maintaining an expensive bowling average of 40.11. Despite his below-par outing, the 31-year-old did pick up match-winning figures of 2-21 against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur last month.
Shreyas Iyer Fined After PBKS Win
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was slapped with a hefty fine of Rs. 12 lakhs by the BCCI for maintaining a slow over-rate against CSK in match 49 of the IPL 2025 season. Since Punjab Kings fell behind time in completing their quota of overs, on-field umpires Akshay Totre and Anish Sahasrabudhe allowed them to keep only four fielders outside the circle in the final over. Nonetheless, Punjab Kings won the match by four wickets in a thrilling high-scoring cracker in Chennai.
