Mumbai Indians crushed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets with more than seven overs to spare in match number 12 of the IPL 2025 season. Bowling first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Mumbai Indians bowlers Ashwani Kumar (4-24), Deepak Chahar (2-19) and Hardik Pandya (1-23) enveloped the entire KKR innings for just 116 in 16.2 overs.
Chasing 117, opening batter Ryan Rickelton punched out a sizzling 41-ball 62* while Suryakumar Yadav bludgeoned nine-ball 27* as Mumbai Indians romped to its first win of the season.
Ashwani Kumar Picks Record IPL Figures By A Debutant
Uncapped Indian fast bowler Ashwani Kumar bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for collecting sensational figures of 4-24 from his four overs against the KKR. Playing his first IPL match, the speedster struck off his first ball with the key of Ajinkya Rahane before dismissing the likes of Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey and Andre Russell in quick succession.
Through the course of his spell, Ashwani recorded the best bowling figures by an Indian cricketer on IPL debut, soaring past Amit Singh’s 3-9 from IPL 2009.
Cameron Green To Play County To Bid For WTC Final
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is set to play for the Gloucestershire cricket club during the upcoming English County season, albeit only as a batter. Green is yet to play a single competitive match since September 2024 owing to the stress fracture he sustained in his back.
The 25-year-old is aiming to get back into Australia’s Test side in time for their upcoming WTC 2025 final against South Africa in June later this year. Green played the last of his 28 Tests for Australia back in March 2024 in Christchurch.
WI Name Shai Hope As T20I Captain, Brathwaite Steps Down As Test Skipper
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has appointed Shai Hope as the new captain of West Indies’ T20I team, replacing Rovman Powell in the process. It is worth noting that Hope already leads the ODI outfit of the West Indies cricket team, thus strengthening him as the premier white-ball captain of his side. Hope was appointed as T20I skipper at the advice of former skipper and two-time World Cup winner Darren Sammy.
In other news, Kraigg Brathwaite stepped down as Test captain ahead of the upcoming home season of the West Indies team.
Naseem Shah Condemns Ex-PAK Players
Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has condemned former players for unfairly criticizing and for making personal remarks about the current team members. The speedster highlighted the issue when he was gathered for an Eid special video alongside Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman, as organized by the PCB.
Naseem stated that while it is perfectly fine for cricket experts to discuss about one’s batting or bowling failures, he added that such former players “cross the line” to some extent by making personal attacks.
