Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders to secure a dominant 8-wicket win in IPL 2025. Ashwani Kumar’s four-wicket-haul led to a collapse as KKR got only 116 runs on the board. Meanwhile, MI chased down the mediocre total in 12.3 overs after Ryan Rickelton’s blazing 62* off 41 balls knock.

Here’s how MI vs KKR panned out in Mumbai:

Deepak Chahar Breathes Fire To Shake Up KKR’s Top Order

KKR batted first against MI but Trent Boult didn’t let Sunil Narine settle and cleaned up his stumps on the fourth delivery of the game. A speedy pitched-up delivery on middle-length generated swing, catching Narine by complete surprise as he saw his stumps flying.

Moreover, Boult received support from Deepak Chahar as he dismissed Quinton de Kock and Venkatesh Iyer in a dream spell. While trying to take charge, de Kock stepped out but mistimed a drive, sending it straight to Ashwani Kumar at mid-off, who timed his leap perfectly for a brilliant reverse-cup catch.

To add to the misery, Venkatesh Iyer was deceived by a bouncer as he nicked it to Rickelton to lose his precious wicket.

Ashwani Kumar Pulls Off Dream Debut With 4-Fer

MI unleashed an emerging talent against KKR in left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar. The youngster wreaked havoc by picking up Ajinkya Rahane on the very first delivery of his IPL career. A wide, full delivery tempted Rahane, who slashed hard, sending it toward deep backward point. Tilak Varma initially fumbled but recovered brilliantly, grabbing a one-handed stunner before tumbling down.

Ashwani then induced a bizarre collapse, dismissing Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey and Andre Russell in what turned out to be a dream spell. He bowled Pandey and Russell with fiery deliveries. Owing to the youngster’s inspiring effort, MI succeeded in restricting KKR to a below-par total of 116 runs.

Rohit Sharma Falls To Another Failure

While the target was mediocre, MI opener Rohit Sharma failed to capitalise on the opportunity to regain some form. Ryan Rickelton had eased the pressure off Rohit with a blazing start, getting 44 runs in 5 overs.

However, MI’s former captain mistimed a short ball at 133.7 kph against Andre Russell and handed over a simple catch to Harshit Rana at mid-off. He walked away on 13 off 12 balls, marking another painful failure in IPL 2025.

Regardless, Rickelton slammed a blazing half-century to hit 62* off 41 balls before Suryakumar Yadav entertained the crowd with 27* off 9 balls quickfire knock. Mumbai Indians chased down the total in 12.3 overs to earn a comfortable and dominant 8-wicket victory.
