Chennai Super Kings may have started IPL 2025 on the front foot with a win over Mumbai Indians but the wheels seem to be coming off a bit. Two back-to-back defeats: first against RCB at Chepauk and then to Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati have exposed some worrying cracks.

One big issue? The flaky middle order. CSK desperately needs a rock at No. 4 who can soak in pressure and shift gears when needed. And now, the focus is suddenly on a 22-year-old rising star: Vansh Bedi.

Who Is Vansh Bedi?

Picked up for just INR 55 lakh at the IPL 2025 auction, Vansh Bedi didn’t set headlines ablaze when CSK signed him. But behind that modest price tag is a player CSK fans are now hyping up as the next big thing. Many are even calling for him to be slotted into the starting XI right away. Why? Because this Delhi lad can hit pace and spin like he was born to do it.

Oh, and he is a wicketkeeper too, cue the “Dhoni successor” tag already flying around. Big shoes, yes. But Bedi’s cool head and fearless game remind many of a young Rishabh Pant.

DPL Form That Turned Heads

While Bedi hasn’t done much in domestic T20s (just one game for Delhi in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and didn’t even bat), it’s his fireworks in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) that made CSK sit up and take notice.

In the inaugural season of DPL, playing for Purani Delhi 6 under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, Bedi looked like a million bucks:

  • 47 off 19* balls in his first game.
  • 30 off 18* against West Delhi Lions.
  • A blistering 96 off 41 balls chasing 242 vs East Delhi Riders.

All said and done, he racked up 221 runs in 9 innings at a strike rate of 185, most of it from the middle order. That kind of form is gold dust in the IPL, especially for a side struggling to stitch together runs between overs 7–15.

The Stats CSK Can’t Ignore

What truly excites fans and maybe even the CSK think tank is Bedi’s ability to boss both spin and pace.

  • Strike Rate vs Pacers: 174
  • Strike Rate vs Spinners: 193

He is not afraid to go over the top either, especially over the leg side, cow corner and long-on being his happy hunting grounds.

Why CSK Fans Want Him Now?

CSK’s middle order looks like it is walking on eggshells. No one has really grabbed that No. 4 slot by the scruff of the neck. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra can get you off to a flier but when the dust settles in the middle overs, CSK have been falling like a house of cards.

Enter Vansh Bedi. Young, fearles, and known for going big in crunch moments. He has got that X-factor, something CSK fans are begging to see unleashed.

He may not have a First-Class game under his belt yet but Vansh Bedi looks like CSK’s best bet to plug the middle-order mess. With the team staring at two losses on the trot, maybe it is time to throw the young gun into the fire and see if he can turn the fortune.
