Cameron Green is back in the groove. The Aussie all-rounder, who had been out of action since September with a stress fracture in his back, is now fit and raring to go.

He is all set to don the Gloucestershire jersey in England for his County Championship stint, however, he will be playing only as a batter for now.

Cameron Green Eyes WTC Final Spot After Long Injury Layoff

The 24-year-old confirmed he is feeling “fit and healthy” again and would have been ready to play the Sheffield Shield final for Western Australia had they made it.

“I was raring to go for that, but it wasn’t meant to be,” Green said in Perth during Cricket Australia’s summer schedule announcement.

Green’s real goal? A spot in the World Test Championship Final in June at Lord’s. But getting into that red-hot Aussie Test XI is no walk in the park.

“We’ve obviously got an ultra-successful top five, six, seven… it’s never easy but that’s what you want it to be in a Test team.” he admitted.

But that hunger to wear the Baggy Green again is driving him. Cameron Green will play five County games for Gloucestershire, hoping to make a loud statement with the bat and sneak his way back into Australia’s Test plans.

The Back Injury That Nearly Broke Him

His back injury was no joke. Green had to undergo surgery in New Zealand and was off his feet for two weeks. But once he was back in the gym, he didn’t look back.

“Been doing gym work for four to five months and been batting for the last month. It's been pretty seamless. So, yeah, pretty happy I got it done,” he said.

Opting for surgery instead of natural healing (which could’ve taken nine months), Green played the long game.

“I got it for the long-term goal of playing cricket for as long as I can. Hopefully, that’s the last of it,” he added.

Batting Only For Now, Bowling To Come Later

For the time being, Green won’t be steaming in with the ball. He is easing into things as a batter, looking to get his rhythm back and pile on the runs. And who knows, with Australia’s selectors keeping a close eye, a few match-winning knocks in county cricket could open the door to WTC 2025 final at Lord’s.

He has had a rough few months but if things go to plan, Cameron Green could be walking out at Lord’s in June and that would be one heck of a comeback.
