In the latest development, Mumbai Indians, the 5-time IPL champions are looking to add fresh faces in the side with talks going on between the franchise and Sri Lankan superstar, Charith Asalanka. With the likes of Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch and more importantly Will Jacks departing, MI need a solid replacement.

While nothing has been confirmed as of now, but as per NewsWire, a deal could be struck soon, especially since the league will resume on Saturday and MI hunting for a place in the playoffs.

Who will Asalanka replace?

The IPL was suspended for a week due to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The IPL was set to end on May 25, but now it will end on June 3 and many of the MI stars have to go on national duties.

The likes of Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch and Will Jacks will no longer be available and hence, MI need a replacement. The Sri Lankan could be a like-to-like replacement for Jacks. Both him and Jacks can bat at number 3 and both are off spinners, which benefits MI. Apart from batting at number 3, Asalanka can also open alongside Rohit Sharma in the remainder of the IPL games.

MI fighting for a place in the playoffs

MI are currently 4th in the points table with 7 wins out of 12 matches. They lost their last match before IPL suspension against GT and will need to win both their remaining matches to qualify for the playoff without depending on other results.
