Matthew Hayden Predicts 'This' CSK Great To Win A 100M Race Against Prime MS Dhoni

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden reckons that Michael Hussey, during his prime, would have outpaced MS Dhoni in a 100-meter race.

Dhoni is widely acknowledged as one of the swiftest runners between the wickets in international cricket, seldom being involved in run-out situations. In 2017, he even managed to defeat Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya in a 100-meter dash, despite Dhoni being 12 years older.

Reflecting on his IPL days in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Hayden shared insights into the charismatic leadership of the Yellow Brigade. Hayden highlighted what unsettles Dhoni the most on the field, stating,

"MS Dhoni is generally unflappable, but if you really want to unsettle him, just display slack fielding effort. If you don't contribute in the field, that's one of the few times you'd look at him and think, 'Oh, that's not going to be good."

When asked about a hypothetical 100-meter race between Dhoni and Hussey at their peaks, Hayden unequivocally supported his former Australian teammate, simply stating, "Michael Hussey."

Intriguingly, Hayden dubbed legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh as the most entertaining sledger he encountered.

"I always loved the battle with Harbhajan Singh; he was a beauty," he remarked.

Both Dhoni and Hussey received acclaim for their speed between the wickets throughout their careers. Their partnership in the IPL thrilled CSK fans. Dhoni's speed appeared almost innate, while Hussey, despite not being the most naturally gifted player, developed a reputation as an incredibly hard worker. His dedication earned him the moniker' Mr Cricket.'

Hayden, beloved in India, especially in Chennai, continued to play in the iconic yellow jersey for CSK. During his three seasons with the MS Dhoni-led side, he secured an orange cap in 2009 and contributed to winning the IPL title in 2010. At CSK, Hayden shared the field not only with Dhoni but also with Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, Scott Styris, and Muttiah Muralitharan.

Hussey remains a vital component of CSK's coaching staff, and he is set to join forces with CSK's Thala for the upcoming season.
