After the heart-wrenching defeat to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final, Indian captain Rohit Sharma maintained a prolonged silence, attempting to process the challenging loss.

Recently, he has broken his silence, sharing insights into the array of emotions he and his teammates navigated while grappling with the outcome. Nearly a month after the World Cup heartbreak, Rohit, having undergone a healing process, expressed gratitude for the steadfast support from the public.

In a sincere video message, Rohit reflected on the difficulty of bouncing back from such a setback. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by his family and friends in providing support and maintaining a light atmosphere around him.

Coming to terms with the defeat was no easy task, but Rohit emphasized the necessity to move forward.

"I had no idea how to come back from this. I had no clue what to do. My family and friends kept me going, and kept things pretty light around me, which was quite helpful. It was not easy to digest, but life moves on and you have to move on," Rohit said in the video.

"I have always grown up watching 50-over World Cup. To me that was the ultimate prize. We have worked all these years for that World Cup. And It's disappointing if you don't get through it, you don't get what you want. You get disappointed. You get frustrated as well," Rohit Sharma added.

Reflecting on the overall campaign, Rohit acknowledged that mistakes happened, as they do in every game, but the team's performance leading up to the final was outstanding.

"I thought we did everything we could from our side. If someone asked what went wrong with our side? We won 10 games and in that 10 games, we made mistakes. But those happen in every game we play. You can't have a perfect game, you can have a near-perfect game,"  he added.

In the aftermath of the final, Rohit opted for a break, choosing not to participate in the T20I series against Australia. Instead, he spent valuable time with his family in the United Kingdom and made himself unavailable for the ongoing white-ball segment of the South Africa tour.
