In a recent development, Sanjiv Goenka-owned Lucknow Super Giants have strengthened their medical team by roping in renowned physiotherapist Patrick Farhart ahead of IPL 2026.

The Master's degree holder in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney announced the appointment on his official LinkedIn and social media handles.

Significantly, Patrick joins the team as the Global Head of Science & Medicine and with his decades-long experience in sports medicine and science, he is set to become an important asset of the IPL franchise.

Who is Patrick Farhart?

Farhart is a highly respected figure in global sports medicine, with a career spanning elite cricket, research, and clinical practice.

Ahead of the LSG role, he served as the Performance Director at Cricket New South Wales, a role he assumed in March 2024, having earlier worked as the organisation’s Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine between July 2021 and February 2024.

Alongside his administrative responsibilities, Farhart is also a PhD candidate at the University of Technology Sydney, where his research focuses on lumbar spine injuries in fast bowlers, reflecting his deep interest in injury prevention and athlete longevity.

Farhart’s stint with the Indian cricket team

Farhart rose to prominence in Indian cricket during his four-year stint as the lead physiotherapist of the Indian men’s team from August 2015 to July 2019. He stepped down alongside fitness coach Shankar Basu following India’s exit from the 2019 World Cup.

His IPL experience is equally extensive, having worked with multiple franchises, including the Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, and later Delhi Capitals, where he served as Head Physiotherapist from August 2019.

Beyond India, Farhart has worked with the Australian national team, New South Wales, Sydney Sixers, Hampshire, and several major rugby and football teams in Australia.

How Farhart is a big boost for LSG

LSG is a team that is known for its injury-marred players. Farhart’s inclusion only eases that pain as the team looks forward to better and faster recovery.

Pacers like Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, and Mayank Yadav, all young fast bowling prospects, have been mostly ruled out of IPL seasons due to their long injury issues. Even Rishabh Pant suffers from injuries every now and then.

With Farhart included in the medical team, LSG aims to reduce the recovery time and make healing more efficient for players by bringing in an expert in the field.
